Last night, Newsnight finally broached the issue that has been lurking beneath the surface for so long, but no one dared to talk about openly: the SQ. The Sandwich Question.
There is a man on Newsnight from the British Sandwich Association saying that his industry couldn’t make a British-only sandwich.
Seriously. pic.twitter.com/aRgKQj0BKd
— Darren Grimes (@darrengrimes_) 30 July 2018
(((Emily Maitlis))): “What does no-deal mean for you, for the sandwich industry?”
Sandwich guy: “I don’t think it means absolute no sandwiches because our industry is very creative and clever at coming up with new recipes.”
This is like a Monty Python comedy sketch except they’re actually being serious.

All part of the none-too-secretly British Government’s Project Fear; subliminally, the British are supposed to fear their decision to leave the EUSSR and find themselves out in the cold, cruel world without anyone wanting to trade with them (Britain being ‘only’ 4th or 5th amongst largest trading countries in the world) and that the basic stuff will be beyond their abilities to supply to themselves let alone to the EU or the Rest of the World. “We’re doomed, doomed, I tell ‘ya” (of course we are, the Brits still haven’t learnt how to make a decent BLT sandwich).

I have suddenly had a subversive thought — why not, instead of demonstrating en masse, march around city centres individually with sandwich boards attached and handing out proper sarnies with a leaflet attached full of healthy info on various verboten subjects? “Food for nourishment of body and mind”. Could be a winner.

I never buy pre-packed sandwiches when I am out because Street shitters will have made them and we all know where their filthy hands have been!
