Here are the placards the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) is using in the current German electoral campaign,

From left to right:
- New Germans? We’ll make them ourselves. Have faith in yourself Germany.
- Burka? I prefer Burgundy (wine). Have faith in yourself Germany.
- Islam? It’s doesn’t fit our cuisine. Have faith in yourself Germany.

From left to right:
- For a family-friendly policy. Children! Are! Fun! [Sort of implied pun on Making children is fun]
- No passport – no entry. Protect the borders.
- Islam doesn’t belong in Germany. [Hard to translate this German phrase precisely. You could also say “Islam is not a part of Germany”.] The freedom of the woman is non-negotiable!

Burkas? We prefer bikinis. Have faith in yourself Germany.

Colourful diversity? We’ve got enough already. Have faith in yourself Germany.
These posters are well done, anti-Islam but not in an aggressive way. They manage to evoke a good-humoured sense of national togetherness, while making it clear that Islam just doesn’t belong. Patriotic parties and movements should takes these as a model for how to reach out to normies.
